Misfortunes of Smart Wifi and Smart Bro Customers
Hi! I am an I.T. consultant. I do have a SmartBro Internet at my home and office. I’ve noticed that there is a new type of MALWARE to disable us from using our Internet.
Here are some of the common signs:
* “RUN” Shortcut in the START MENU is Missing
* “CONTROL Panel Closes when you’ve open it”
* Valid IP Adress but packet is not pushing through
* The Title Bar of your Web Browser is changed
When I’ve check my IP Address it seems OK but the packet is not pushing through the Internet because of this form of MALWARE.
This MALWARE modifies our registry key so that we would think we are experiencing Internet connection problem. I’ve encountered this problem twice in two different cities here in Metro Manila.
I’ve fixed the problem by running the winsockxpfix program. You can download it from http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html
This small software will reset your network settings in the windows registry key only.
I think we can be infected by this malicious software from USB Flash drive and/or from the Internet.
I advise that we should practice safe computing.
By the way My SmartBro Connection is still good

what is MALWARE?
Definition from Wikipedia:
Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner’s informed consent. It is a portmanteau of the words “malicious” and “software”. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code.
In short virus. pero iba lang yung term.

if you have a valid ip and unable to go online:
netsh winsock reset
if you have an ip that starts with a 169 or 0.0.0.0:
