Nice surprise just now. After recent storms in our area (Bukidnon, with our servers in Cagayan de Oro) and several cutoffs, it seems our SmartBro connection went from the our longsuffering ‘normal’ 384 kbps (which is in actuality 50KB/s*) to a whopping 1.5 to 2 mbps (around 180 to 250 KB/s). That’s five times our old speed. The upload speed stayed pretty much the same though, but not complaining.

I could pretty much cry LOL. We’ve been expecting this for years. The funny thing (might be coincidental, but probably not), is that recently Globe has been starting to promote their own internet in our area. They may have fast-tracked the upgrades because of this.

Thank goodness for competition, eh? And please please please let this be permanent LOL.

*(note the difference between the small b in kilobit and the large B in kiloBYTE. One kilobyte = Eight kilobits)

The first thing we can do is complain directly to the NTC using their website, ntc.gov.ph. If you search ntc.gov.ph with google, may direct link papunta sa complaint form nila.
