Perhaps to fan the fire a bit more…

I am moving overseas so i won’t be able to finish my contract with smart. Fortunately I found someone who is willing to take over my contract. I had a look at their terms and conditions and it said something there about needing to ask, in writing, about changing ownership.

Since the terms did not say anything about how to go about doing this, I rang Smart’s customer service. They said to do this i would need to go to a wireless center and apply for change of ownership. I asked if i needed to bring the person who’s taking over the contract, they said no, not at this point.

I got to the wireless center and the girl i spoke to did not know anything about change of ownership. First she says that change of ownership is not available yet, just relocation. She goes inside the employees only area, after about five minutes she comes out and goes back on her computer and reads god knows what for another five minutes.

Eventually she tells me that change of ownership is only possible if the original owner has finished the one year contract. WTF? If i finish the one year i would just get the subscription cancelled! Why would i go through the whole process of getting it changed over to another person?? Anyway, she suggested that we just apply for relocation (which has a P2,000 fee).

I don’t like the relocation idea, cos the bill would still be under my name. If the “new” subscriber decides not to pay them at all for the remaining months in the contract, i will be the one who will get a bad credit rating. I guess my only consolation is i’m moving overseas permanently, so i can just say goodbye to smart and all their crap!

Anyway, in short, there is NO WAY to get out of a smart subscription! Unless you try and finish your one year, that is.
