Attention: To all Smartbro subsribers:

Guys! let us create a list of smart cellsites with its exact location para naman mailagay natin sa GoogleEarth placemark and see the
best location for our Canopy SubscriberModule (yung antenna natin) to the Smart Canopy AP (part dun sa basestation).

Dito sa area ko sa westservice road Muntinlupa city 2 base station ang available pero I can’t spot it on googleearth. Let us create a list of Smart cellsite
location and publish it on WIKI.

Para naman matulungan natin ang mga sarili natin at iba pang smartbro subscribers to set our antenna’s line of sight to the best possible Smart cellsite location.

Maraming Salamat!

Hello fellow Pinoys!

I’m a SmartBro subscriber in Cagayan de Oro city, and I’m getting decent speeds (about 300kbps down, 200kbps up as measured by http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ ). I got this connection to basically play online games, and not the average Ragnarok or Gunbound either but something along the lines of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and Falcon 4 Allied Force.

So far, I am able to fly MSFS2004, and I am able to connect and play on Neverwinter Nights servers. However, I can only see Falcon 4 servers but cannot connect to them — I keep getting timed out.

Here’s a quote from somebody in-the-know about these sims:

And state that…

MS Flightsimulator ports work:
Flight Simulator 2000 2300-2400,47624 2300-2400
Flight Simulator 2002 2300-2400,47624 2300-2400
Flight Simulator 2004 6073,23456

but not Falcon4 which require:
ports 2934 and 2935 for protocols TCP and UDP.

See if someone can help you with either the ISP or knows the secret to forwarding ports over this wireless ISP and SmartBro technology (which might have its own port forwarding or DMZ built-in).

I called the tech support a few months back, and they say that they are not blocking any ports, but testing port connection via eDonkey and other peer-to-peer programs shows that they cannot access such ports.

Does anyone know how to get around this?

As a temporary workaround, I am able to fly with Falcon 4 users by downloading and installing Hamachi (http://www.hamachi.cc/) to fly in a virtual private network (VPN). The downside is that everybody I play with MUST have Hamachi installed to join, and even the server we are using must have Hamachi.

This is really disappointing since judging by my connection speeds, I should be able to fly online and enjoy these sims (and this broadband connection), but for some reason, I cannot do so. I suspect the culprit to be one of the following:
1. SmartBro really IS blocking the required ports
2. It’s that NAT system SmartBro uses
3. It’s the IP that SmartBro gives me (note that static IP doesn’t solve my issues)

I hope somebody can help! Thank you in advance!

PoE (Power over Ethernet)

Sep 1, 2006 Author: fernits | Filed under: Technical Advice, Wifi Information

I’ve been researching about canopy antenna if it support the PoE and I could not find a complete information if this antenna does support PoE. I am planning to put a wireless router/switch that support PoE (PS) so that I will not be using the power supply that comes with the canopy antenna.

Anyone knows the model of canopy antenna we are using now?
Anyone has the info for this?

To give you an idea.

Performance Survey: Smart Bro in Cabuyao Laguna

Aug 10, 2006 Author: textguru | Filed under: Wifi Information

Hi Guys,

I live somewhere in Cabuyao Laguna where no Telephone Lines installed. Options for communication is only mobile phone or a wireless phone system that Liberty Phone, and Digitel’s Mango CDMA. I am an internet savvy and I cant live without the net. I am looking to subscribe to SMART BRO but I am hesitant if the service is good in our place. I have seen antennas on our place but not sure if it is SMART BRO. Since this group is all about their service, I am hoping that some of you will respond or comment to my post.

Kudos to Smart Bro

Aug 4, 2006 Author: flippyme | Filed under: Wifi Information

I’m extremely happy with the service now. But honestly, I’ve had problems with SMART Wi-fi as early as day 1 (end of January) but after almost 3 months of complaining and/or troubleshooting with them (relaunch into SMART BRO), naayos din sa wakas.

FYI: kahit malakas na hangin ng bagyo (Glenda and the one before that), walang pa rin interruption sa service nila. Galeng!

Area: Quezon City.
