Smart Bro in Cabuyao? Weak or Strong?

Aug 3, 2007 Author: textguru | Filed under: Technical Advice, Wifi Information

I have seen lots of mobile smartbro booths on Laguna specially on our place. They are really promoting their service eventhough they are receiving lots of complains about their service. Actually, I am thinking many times if I really need to subscribe to their service since I do not have choice. Need comments if Smart Bro is ok in Laguna especially on Barangay Mamatid Cabuyao.

What is Jitter?

Jul 21, 2007 Author: SlackeR | Filed under: Technical Advice, Wifi Information

I do hope that yuga is correct in saying that smart is reading this and I do hope this gives their Technical Department more info. In short what this means the less the jitter level for your SM (Subscriber Module = CANOPY) the better, this also tells you that even if you are very very close to the Base Station AP (Access Point) does not mean that you will have better connection. Smart should configure CANOPY’s in different ways and there should be no standard configuration. Configuration of SM’s (CANOPY’s) should depend on where the subscriber is located.

Jitter is a measurement of the quality of the link. You can have high RSSI and still have high jitter. That SM is only 490 feet from the AP. The problem is too much signal (-42dB). Set the Power Control on the SM to “Low”, this will reduce the SM’s output by 18dB. Lower Jitter is better.

Having that one SM with -42dB is going to reduce that AP’s efective range. This is called desensitizing. It is not as big of a problem to have alot of signal at the SM side as the only signal the SM needs to see is the one AP. The AP needs to see many SM’s and if one has it’s signal substantially higher than the others the AP has difficulty picking up the SM’s with lower signals (further away).

Log into the AP’s Sessions page and look at the level from each SM. In general you want to try to balance the amount of power the AP sees from each SM so that the lowest is not below -76dB and the highest is not above -56dB with the majority of the SM’s falling between -60 and -70 (remember we are dealing with negative numbers so the lower number is a higher signal level with 0 being the absolute maximum.) So in the case of your SM with -42dB RSSI, you can lower the power of the 18dB and still have -60 which is just about right.

If you have an SM with a signal level higher thn about -58dB, you should be able to set the Power Control to Low and still have -76dB. I would suggest that you test this on site rather than changing users from the AP. Once you have a feel for when to switch the Power Control to Low, then change your other users.

Hi to all SmartBro(lok) Subscribers, Recently I tested all ports if they are opened, closed or blocked by SmartBro, and I found that the all common ports and other ports are closed or blocked, even the port 25 that used in SMTP are blocked!

Moving.

Feb 16, 2007 Author: fluxie | Filed under: Technical Advice, Wifi Information

Hello. I’m moving out of my current apartment and will be moving to Kingswood in Pasong Tamo. Would anyone of you know if they allow wifi there?

Second, how do I go about telling Smart that I have to move my antenna/account to Kingswood? Are there fees? And is this possible? Please let me know. Thanks.

Im curious about Smart’s implementation of their SmartBro service. For some reason, when I tried downloading from rapidshare, it said that my IP was already downloading from the site. Now, I know it wasnt me downloading, so is it possible that im sharing my IP address with someone in the Smart Network or perhaps with a lot of other subscribers? I know it IS possible, but that could create problems in some internet applications… like for example, downloading from rapidshare.

Also, im sorry if I havent really gone through everyone’s posts in the forum, but, has anyone been experiencing loss of connection to SmartBro’s DNS servers? I can ping the gateway fine… But no replies from their DNS servers. What seems to fix it (sometimes) is a reboot of the Canopy antenna.

I can relate with some of my fellow subscriber’s complaints about the expertise of SmartBro’s tech support agents. I tried calling once to see what all the fuss was about, and I saw that the agent was hugely lacking in both product knowledge and professionalism. Coming from a call center myself as a tech support agent serving a DSL ISP, I know what I should expect in terms of troubleshooting and handling. But frankly speaking, man, they DO suck.

I’ve actually been a happy subscriber of PLDTDSL in mandaluyong for years now. I just got my SmartBro hooked up in my house in Bustos, Bulacan because it was the only broadband connection available in the area. After three weeks of service, im already running low in patience… Heheheh…

OH, and lastly, for some reason i cant access the Canopy antenna anymore from it’s IP of 169.254.1.1 I never changed it, and Im not behind a router.

Hello to all my fellow SmartBro subscribers!

WiFi Router 2gether w/ SmartBro possible??

Jan 26, 2007 Author: svensson | Filed under: Technical Advice, Wifi Information

Hello, I’ll be sa RP again next month. I planned 2 take my Laptop w/ me and connect 2 the Internet in d house of a friend. He has a PC w/ SmartBro and acc. 2 him there’s just an USB-cable going 2 the Smart-Antenna. There’s also a very small box integrated in this USB-cable. Acc to him a 220V gadget for more Watts or so?!

So my question:

If I come 2 RP and take a good WiFI Router w/ me is it possible 2 connect it so that his PC still is connected well and my Laptop can also connect via this Router?

Or is this Smart “USB-Antenna” an explic. “Single-PC” solution (MAC-Locked?) so that it is not possible 2 build a small “network” ?
If it’s possible, pls explain short how 2 connect so that I understand how 2 do.

Thank you - Maraming salamat and greetings from Austria/Europe!
