SMART recently expanded its mobile broadband portfolio and launched two more products designed to run on SMART’s nationwide HSPA network.

HSPA, or High-Speed Packet Access, is the next step in the evolution of the GSM technology, after GPRS, EDGE, and 3G. HSPA offers download speeds of up to 5.8 Mbps – or a full-length, 3-Mb mp3 song downloaded in about half a second.

The Smart Bro-powered “Share It” is a wireless router which can connect to SMART’s HSPA network. A plug-and-play device, the broadband gadget receives HSPA signal from the SMART network and uses WiFi to connect up to five computers in a common area, such as a home, to the Internet.

Another device recently launched by SMART is the country’s first дивани netbook with built-in broadband connectivity. Smart Bro HSPA modems now come embedded in the Asus Eee PC™ 904 GO, offering a complete, ready-to-run Internet appliance straight out of the box.

These moves reinforce SMART’s advances in HSPA, which offers fast, broadband experience delivered wirelessly to laptops, desktops, celphones, modems, routers, and other mobile devices.

“From the day we opened for business 15 years ago, SMART has stayed in step with global standards. Upgrading our network to HSPA raises mobile broadband to the next level and makes it accessible to more Filipinos,” said Orlando B. Vea, SMART’s Chief Wireless Advisor and also one of its founders.

Operators all over the world have been evolving their 3G networks to the HSPA standard. Worldwide, 239 operators now offer HSPA services in 105 countries, such as AT&T in the United States, Vodafone in the United Kingdom, Telstra in Australia, KTF in South Korea, and Maxis in Malaysia.

The popularity of HSPA among operators and consumers is expected to give rise to significant economies of scale, encouraging the production and driving down prices of HSPA handsets and other devices in the medium- to long-term.

SMART’s HSPA network runs on the 850-MHz frequency band which is ideal for wider coverage, complemented by the 2100-MHz spectrum for increased capacity. This coverage-and-capacity rollout strategy adopted by SMART for its HSPA network ensured that mobile broadband would become a reality more quickly to more people in more places.

“To our subscribers, HSPA means a wider range of services, from mobile browsing to video downloads, delivered at faster speeds. It means tourists in the shores of Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte can now upload and share their vacation videos via the Web, as it happens right there on the beach. It means students in public schools in Digos, Davao del Sur can now browse through virtual libraries and download volumes of learning materials. It means volunteer doctors on a medical mission in Narra, Palawan can now share high-resolution images of their patients’ cases and consult with other doctors here in Manila, in real time. These are the real benefits of HSPA,” added Vea.

“As we innovate and offer more and more services running on the most advanced technologies, we hope to advance our ‘Internet for All’ agenda, or to bring the benefits of broadband Internet to the grassroots,” ended Vea.

SmartBro Pambansang Broadband??

Jun 3, 2007 Author: tuxz | Filed under: Announcement

Hey Guys may bagong TV Ads ang SmartBro, Napapanood nyo ba yung TV Ads?? Sabi sa TV Ads ang SmartBro ang Pambansang Broadband?? Yucks nagbuhat ng sariling bangko ang SmartBro..

They claiming that SmartBro is the National Broadband??

Start Downloading Stuff Now!!!

May 11, 2007 Author: damiki | Filed under: Announcement

To those SMART WiFi subscribers in Meycauayan Bulacan whose Canopy is pointing to the cellsite near Sta. Clara Montefalco, start downloading stuff now!!! Why? Currently, SMART is re-assessing their bandwidth allocation for this cellsite, how do I know? I’m currently downloading using BitTorrent and LimeWire and my maximum download bandwidth is 2MBPS, yep, that’s right, ~2000kbps. You maybe asking, what good will this do?

6 months ago, SMART did the same thing, they removed all bandwidth limitations for all users connected to that particular cellsite, then they measured the maximum bandwidth being consumed by the cellsite and will allocate that bandwidth for that cellsite. If everyone starts downloading NOW, the bandwidth usage will spike up and they will have no choice but to allocate a larger bandwidth. You may be asking, if there are 10 users, and each is allocated 384kbps (max), then its a maximum 3840kbps for a cellsite, right? WRONG. SMART has some program running bandwidth allocation for each user. If a user is only using, for example, one browser to connect to the internet, the program will only allocate a percentage of your allocated bandwidth to your browser, so if you have multiple connections requesting data all at the same time, the program will have no choice but to give you your maximum bandwidth allocation. How do I know this? Very simple, try browsing using only one browser and check the bandwidth using a tool like ‘NETSTAT live’, then use LimeWire and check the bandwidth.

Things to do when Fieldman set-up your SmartBro.

1. When SmartBro Fieldman comes to your house & set-up your antenna make sure that you can easily access your antenna like moving it 360 degrees so you can easily scan for other base station if your speed is slow.
2. When you have internet connection dont let the Fieldman go away check first your download speed, make sure your download speed is 40 to 50 KB download some files from winamp.com, chikka.com or anything that give full speed bandwidth download.
3. Check for ping, go to Start -> Run -> type cmd then ok -> type ping google.com -t this will check your internet connection

example:

C:\>ping google.com -t

Why Smart Bro really sucks?

Apr 14, 2007 Author: juven | Filed under: Announcement, Technical Advice

one or more base stations are located in one particular area……….each base stations has its own bandwidth…….. lets say one base station has a bandwidth of 10Mbps and 100 users are connected to that base station, [10,000/100 = 100) therefore each of those users will be receiving 100kbps.......

reasons for intermittent connections

  • kapag wireless internet tlgng unstable ang connection xe pwedeng makaapekto ang mga infrastracture, puno, at kung anu pa mang nkhrang in-between ur canopy and the base station [kahit mga nalaglag na dahon sa puno nakakaapekto and even rain]
  • We always have unstable connections between 9am-12am or even worse 7am-1am imagine 18 hrs na unstable ung connection tpos sobrang bagal pa ranging from 7KBps to 16KBps (or 56kbps - 128kbps)… tpos ung remaining hours the speed ranges from 35KBps - 48KBps (or 280kbps - 384kbps)…………The reason for this is: dun sa 7am-1am, “madaming user ang nakaonline which means pinagha2tian natin ung speed ng isang base station”. As for the remaining hours, normal ang bandwidth ntin (280kbps - 384kbps). Ayaw nio maniwala? try nio mag bandwidth test sa madaling araw ng 1am-5am…… the result will range from 300kbps to 384kbps.
I have a friend na wlang problema sa smartbro probinsya. He told me that 10-15 subscribers lng ata cla dun sa lugar nila

  • ganun tlga xe ang theory ng wireless internet, UPLOAD SPEED IS GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO THE DOWNLOAD SPEED. Inde cia tulad ng asymmetric dsl (ung phone line ang gamit) na ang DL is greater than UL.

BOTTOMLINE

  • the bottomline here is “SMARTBRO REALLY SUCKS”.

SOLUTION

  • smart should increase the bandwitdth or the capacity of each base station..
  • switch ISP… lumipat n kau.

I WISH NALIWANAGAN KAYO SA POST KO………..my objective here is mahikayat kau na ipa disconnect nio n ang smartbro nio after ur lockin period at maghanap na kau ng better ISP. At dun nmn sa nagplaplanong mgsubscribe sa smartbro, don’t you ever think about it. It will be just a waste of time and money…………
