Problem with speed

Aug 30, 2006 Author: POTPOT | Filed under: Customer Complaint, Technical Advice

Good day! I am new to this chronicle. I had my SMART BRO connection 2 weeks ago. So far the service is uninterrupted however my problem is with regards to the speed of the connection. I am averaging 100kbps a far cry from what SMART promised on their advertisements. Sometimes it goes up to 200kbps but never reached the 300+ plateau.

Is there anything I need to do (except calling their “NOT SO technical support”) to address this problem.

MABUHAY PO KAYONG LAHAT!

Smart Wi-Fi: Slow, Slower, Slowest!

Aug 30, 2006 Author: drakulita | Filed under: Customer Complaint

Apparently, Smart Wifi users can’t even afford to enjoy the web’s simple pleasures. Downloading videos from YouTube has become such a pain in the ass lately. I keep getting broken connections and thus, broken videos. Last week I enjoyed watching ANTM 6 through YouTube but now I find it hard to watch ANTM 5 videos because downloading and reloading (due to broken downloads) are taking WAY TOO MUCH of my free time.

Billing

Aug 29, 2006 Author: tookie | Filed under: Customer Complaint

Our area have no Wireless Center and that SmartWifi/Bro Billings thru Philpost usually are delivered late. SMART’s billing section were quick to understand (I presume) since my 2-month unpaid Wi-Fi is still connected. On the third month, a lady called me and informed me of my duties. A week later, another lady called me and advised me to pay so that I will not experience a permanent disconnection. With all of these calls, SMART seems to be the one bowing to my level and asking me to pay my obligations.

And so I paid all my duties until the month of July on August 7. After a week, my connection was REDIRECTED. I called our “dearly beloved” *1888 (press “2″ for high blood) and complained. I was directed to call billing because of my status on their database. I called billing section and this is what they want for my connection to be restored: pay my August account plus the September account. Of course I protested since there’s still a good 10 days before the month of August is over. But they insist on this otherwise I cannot be reconnected.

And so I paid again for the months of August and September thru the bank. I faxed the deposit slip as per advise of SMART. After an hour I called *1888 and demanded that I be reconnected since I already accomplished their requirements. I was told that my faxed deposit slip cannot be located. I asked “how many fax machines do you have?” and they answered “only one.” And I asked again “Do you have that many faxed messages in an hour to loose mine?”

And the line went silent for more than a minute — I presumed the person on the other line is looking for the correct line in their “ready-made answers”. When my faxed message was found, it was like a party on the other end of the line as I was very furious. My blood boiled when they told me that re-activation of redirected accounts is after 24 hours.

To summarize the events:
August 7 - Connection Redirected
August 7 - Paid in the 3-hr travel wireless center (all dues until July)
August 7 - Reconnected
August 16 am - Connection Redirected
August 17 pm - paid thru bank, faxed deposit slip to Smart (August and September)
August 17 evening - Reconnected
August 24 - received collection letter dated August 9 stating that accounts
are due on August 19

Is SMART changing from “WIFI” to “BRO” all the way or just skin deep? They did not even bothered to inform me of the impending redirection. And redirection after 24 hours? SMART will be slapped in the face with BayanTelDSL’s “Action agad within 4 hours”

I chose SMART’s services because of the name, coverage area, security, infrastructure, stability, convergence, systems integration, etc. Until when will the faults in it’s system be streamlined and become a truly customer-friendly? Mr. Nazareno, please have a look on this. 90% of our populace is heavily relying on your company’s services and we want to continue it that way.

I don’t think posting my account numbers is necessary as I am not the only one having these problems since last year. I mean account numbers as I, my mother, brother and peers have SMARTBRO connections in which I was responsible in applying for such connections.

Ok so far..

Aug 27, 2006 Author: romeoescuyos | Filed under: Customer Complaint, Technical Advice

Subscribed July 2006.

I live in Queensrow, Molino, Bacoor, Cavite. Only had a few bouts of slow connection. But I do understand that the published speed they use in advertisements is in kilobits (kb) and not kilobytes (kB) (1 kilobyte = 8 kilobits). And the speed that you see in commercials and print ads is the maximum possible speed allowable. That means on average your connection may be much less than what you expect most of the time due to several factors: weather, distance from cellsite, surrounding enviroment (e.g. trees, mountains, buildings, structures that may prevent line-of-sight visibility from the base), equipment nearby that may be causing interference (such as power lines etc.), cookies (browser), network congestion, quality of equipment used by the provider, quality of customer premise equipment (the equipment that decodes the signal and feeds them to your PC), PC configuration, firewall settings, processor speed etc.

That is the situation so far in my area. I can’t speak for those in other areas who experience frequent disconnections. Now, that is another story. My last disconnection was three weeks ago and I received an sms text from smart announcing they’re conducting maintenance and that was it.

My advice is always delete cookies from time to time and restart your browser. Make sure your firewall is configured properly for your browser. Defragment your hard disk once a month. Scan your hard disk for spyware (they will slow down your system to a screeching halt) once a week. Some good anti-spyware software are spybot, spywareblaster, adaware (all these are free to download). Or if you have windows xp service pack 2 you can utilize Microsoft’s Windows Defender.

I kinda know all these because I was tech support before for a well known US broadband provider. Last year they were already offering 1.5Mbps (26x faster than dial-up) for almost same price we’re paying. I just hope our folks from Globe or Smart can catch up.

We need to open our PC 24/7

Aug 19, 2006 Author: Edgar2006 | Filed under: Customer Complaint

Hi to everybody, this is my first time d2 sa site ng wifi chronicles, thanks for the moderator, at least may paghi2ngahan na kami ng sama ng loob sa palpak na serbisyo ng smart or meridian ba o ano?

Hay naku, hanggang kailan kaya kami magtitis kua Eddie, at Ate Charo, buti n lng may landline kami ng Digitel, prepaid nga lng kaya wala kaming ibang alternative kundi gumamit ng dial-up nila kahit medyo mahal un service at least pwede mo pa asahan!!!

We deserve to have a refund dun sa mga araw na wala kming kuneksyon! hay naku uli, kunsumisyon!!!
